Galápagos Weather & Currents - Best Times to Dive

The Galápagos Marine Reserve offers world-class diving all year long, with each season bringing its own magic. From June to November, cooler currents (18–24 °C) flood the archipelago with nutrients, attracting large pelagic species — including whale sharks, hammerhead schools, and Galápagos sharks patrolling the deeper sites. Visibility can be dramatic, with strong currents making dives like Gordon Rocks truly unforgettable.

In the warmer season (December to May), the sea temperature rises to 25–28 °C, the surge calms, and visibility improves — perfect for exploring colorful reefs, shallow volcanic formations, and the gentler sites around Santa Cruz and Floreana. Encounters with sea turtles, eagle rays, marine iguanas, and playful sea lions are common throughout the year.

No matter when you visit, the Galápagos Marine Reserve delivers. Every dive site has its own character, and every day in the water is a chance to witness one of the most biodiverse marine ecosystems on the planet.
